From the Director
A big thank you to everybody for attending this year!
- DATES FOR NEXT YEAR -
April 8th - 13th, 2014
The Arctic Man is a unique event that has grown to be one of the major winter events held within the state of Alaska wilderness. The 2013 Arctic Man is the 28th anniversary, that’s twenty eight years of adrenaline rush and speed.
The main event is scheduled for Friday, April 12, again we are hoping for good weather. We will use April 13 & 14 as back up dates. The race this year will START at 11 am and should be done by 2:30. The AMMC Hillcross is right after the race which should START about 3:00 p.m.
Communication at the Arctic Man has always been a major challenge throughout the past 28 years. This year the Anchorage Radio Station 94.7 KZND will be on site to operate our Official Arctic Man Radio Station and should be up all weekend with music playing and it will have race updates. The station is 107.5 FM. We are going to try and also give race times during the Arctic Man. Bring your small FM radios and we will try one more time.
A big thank you to AT&T for cell phone service for the past two years and they should be back for 2013.
This event has come a long way in 28 years. We want to thank all of our sponsors, racers, volunteers, and helpers for making the Arctic Man such a great success. But, most of all, we want to thank all the spectators for coming back year after year!
We again have a huge snowfall this year in the mountains. Please, we all want to be careful. Watch for dangerous snow situations, large snow packs, edges, and tight valleys. BE CAREFUL!
We are going to work very hard to make sure that SAFETY and COMMON SENSE are a priority. We have our own security to help you with any problems; please use them if you need them. We have our own medic staff to help with first aid problems; please use them. Alaska State Troopers will also be on site to help; we want to also thank them for their support.
BIG THANK YOU TO MOTORFIST FOR BECOMING OUR OFFICIAL ARCTIC MAN WINTER APPAREL FOR 2013.
Thank you,
Have a Safe & Good Time,
Howie Thies
Race Director
Important Arctic Man requests
You are more than welcome to bring your couch's to Arctic Man but please bring them back home with you! No burning or putting couches in the dumpsters. This can cause a hazzard for many since gasoline and other flammables are stored within a campsite and it is a mess to clean up for our crew. Its a safety issue and will not be tolerated.
Fireworks are not allowed within the Arctic Man premises. Again, folks store gasoline and other flammables.
If you bring a pet, it MUST be on a leash at all times. Please be considerate of others and their pets.
